This day is dedicated to all those people who put their friends before themselves and wish nothing but good luck to their friends. Friendship day is celebrated on 30th July in most of the countries across the globe but, it varies in certain countries. It was first celebrated in South America, particularly in Paraguay in 1958 on 11th July. The first friendship day was a proposal by the World Friendship Crusade. On 27 April 2011, 30th July was officially declared to be the International Friendship Day. However, as mentioned before, it is celebrated on different dates in some countries, for example in India.

The first thought for friends day came from Hallmark cards in the 1930’s. Initially celebrated on second August, the day was to a great extent seen negatively by general society as a cash making exercise, offers of friends day cards did not take off in Europe and by the mid-1940’s the day had blurred into lack of definition in the USA.
